MEDIU’s Achievement: Teamwork Success

The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual. {وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلاَ تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَاتَّقُوا اللّهَ إِنَّ اللّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ}  (المائدة: 2). “ : …And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.”

Teamwork concept embodies the principles of cooperation and Shura Council; as measured by any organization. It is through the solidarity shown in the team work carried out by the management, employees, and also among the workers itself. A successful organization requires a good and effective team player; listening to ideas, views, suggestions and conceptions of other employees as well as able to discuss the ideas and strategies suggested for a collective effort to achieve a goal and ultimately meet the needs of the job.

MEDIU has achieved remarkable success in a short period since its inception in achieving its mission and vision. Up till 2014, MEDIU’s currently has six (6) faculties and forty (40) academic programs that have received full accreditation by the Malaysia Qualifications Agency (MQA). This shows the efforts of universities to ensure on the importance of quality assurance in education locally and globally in general. Thus, the development shows MEDIU is committed in providing the best educational opportunities.

Collaborative efforts as a team can be seen through the implementation of Executive Management Council meeting (EMC) and the Academic Senate Meeting; the two major meetings gives an overall management of the university in general. This was followed by a meeting of the board and other committees of Inspection Committee, Admissions Committee, Marketing Committee, Scholarship Committee, Council of Graduate Studies and others where the process of negotiations and discussions conducted prior to seeking approval of higher authorities for the implementation of the agenda.

In the year 2014, MEDIU’s Executive Management Council meeting (EMC) held a total of seventy-three 73) meetings meanwhile Academic Senate Meeting held a total of fifty-nine (59) meetings to discuss various agenda and matters arising pertains to the university’s development. The discussion covers on appointment approvals, jobs promotion, memorandum of understanding, students related matters such as tuition fees, student records, alumni as well as the academic curriculum development and such.

In conclusion, teamwork is one of the most important essence of a successful organization and the ability to work together toward a common vision; the ability to direct individual accomplishments toward the organizational objectives.
