Meeting Between the Minister of Education II with Private Higher Education Institutions

A session with all the local Private Higher Education Institutions higher management with Dato’Seri Idris Jusoh, Minister of Education II was held on Monday, 12 May 2014 in Kuala Lumpur. MEDIU were represented by Assoc.Prof. Dr Hj. Wan Mat Hj Sulaiman; Deputy CEO of Academic Affairs Division and Assoc. Prof. Dr. AB Rahim Ismail; Deputy CEO of Research and Development Division. The meeting was organized by the Malaysian Education, Department of Higher Education, Ministry Of Education.

The meeting was part of the Ministry of Education’s initiative to continue to establish a good relationship and to provide a platform to discuss issues of common interest, especially involving private institutions taking students from abroad as well as on the improved Global Education Services (EMGS). Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh states that the EMGS, which was up 14 months ago has received nearly 12,850 applications for new student visas in the first quarter of 2014. EMGS will be effective in screening, vetting and detecting applicants, who are attempting to enter the country for other purposes using a student visa; thus shows that the implementation of the EMGS has resulted in an increase of quality applications and the submissions of irregular applications have been minimized. At present, more than 100,000 foreign students in Malaysia, with the majority from Nigeria and China.

EMGS is a government company is not aimed at making a profit, was founded in 2012 and began operations last year, acting as a one-stop center in Malaysia education marketing and management services related to operations such as processing and renewal of visas for international students.
