Al-Madinah International University(MEDIU) participates in an intellectual debate on embracing the spirit of ‘Wasatiyyah’ which was held at the Faculty of Tan Sri M.A. Rauf, Universiti Islam Malaysia(UIM) in Cyberjaya, Selangor on Tuesday, 22 April 2014. The invitation was accepted Assoc. Prof. Dr.Ismail Mat, Deputy CEO of Students Affairs Division and was attended by senior officials and administrators from various public and private universities in Malaysia as well as employees of government ministries.
The session was initiated and led by Prof. Dato’ Wira Dr. Hj Ismail Ibrahim in which he enlightened on the signal about the misconceptions and misunderstandings of some Islamic concepts of ‘Wasatiyyah’ due to lack of full understanding of Islam which reflects a bad image of the Islamic religion. During the session, he emphasize on the importance of the establishment of the Malaysian ‘Wasatiyyah’ Institute and quoted a speech by His Honorable Prime Minister; Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, “The concept of ‘wasatiyyah’ approach emphasizes moderation in Islamic teaching in all aspects of social and individual life, and that it focuses of forming good relations towards the thrust and direction of a better living country”.
During the program, several matters has been addressed namely definition of moderation, sense of balance and moderation towards justice in human life, and aspirations in building a Malaysian-compatible and coherent country. The program also touched on the debate, to end the consolidation of mentalities and applied on the basis of the principles of moderation, balance and justice. Others were discussion on ways to contribute to the construction of Malaysian society with high values and ethics that is based on the concept of moderation in all aspects of life, focusing on the moderation and balance through mutual respect and observance of the democratic system and laws.
The intellectual session revolves around the problems related to the importance of building a Malaysian society, as well as analysis of the issues relating to moderation approach. As a statement that Islam is a religion of tolerance and peace, and that he renounces violence and terrorism. Therefore Muslims should work to set up an integration Islamic civilization module on the basis of objective and scientific concepts of ‘wasatiyyah’ approach. It is noted that Malaysia is one of the best countries in instilling the concepts of national belonging among all segments of society, and embrace the issues of the nation and the Islamic nation, and defend it by all means available and legitimate.
MEDIU has always keen to participate actively in seminars and forums covering intellectual culture and to consolidate its role in the education sector as well as to highlight the efforts undertaken by the University’s in science and cultural dissemination of Islam, according to the moderation approach.
