Dean Faculty of Languages delivers a lecture in Academy of Language Studies, UiTM Shah Alam

Al-Madinah International University(MEDIU) represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Daud Quadir Elega, Dean Faculty of Languages delivers a lecture on “Strategies of teaching and Learning Arabic to Non Native Speakers and Challenges in The Modern Era” on Tuesday, 15 November 2016 which was held at Academy of Language Studies (ALS),Universiti Teknologi MARA (UitM), Shah Alam in Selangor.

He was welcomed by the Dr Nor Hayuza Mohamad; Head of Centre For Arabic Language Studies and the academy representatives. Dr. Daud expressed his appreciation by the invitation of the academy on the basis of exchanging of experiences on teaching and learning of Arabic languages, in which he pointed out that studies has shown that at present more people are exploring and learning the Arabiclanguage in order to gain a better understanding of Islam, Al-Quran and As-Sunnah.

In the lecture session, Dr.Daud explained on the the fundamental skills of language in teaching and learning of foreign languages as a second language namely listening, speaking, reading and writing skills as well as elements of sound structure of language and vocabulary. He stated that most students from Southeast Asia shown difficulty to learn a foreign language and this can be overcome by understanding the strategies in the process of educational activities. Among the development of language skills which can be applied are by listening to audio recordings of recitation of the Quran, Hadith, poetry readings and lectures, recording conversations, dialogue session with those proficient in the language to polish and build up skills in learning the foreign languages.

The Academy of Language Studies (ALS) was established in 1972 for the purpose of co-ordinating the learning and teaching of English as a Second Language (ESL), as well as that of other Asian and European languages to all the students in all faculties at the university’s main campus and branches across the country with the vision as a leading institution of international standard in teaching, learning and research language.
