Orientation Day for Malaysian Students (September 2014 Intake)

An orientation day to welcome the new students for the Semester 2014 was held for three days from 8-10 September 2014. A total of forty-five (45) Malaysian students enrolled for the Foundation in Arabic Languages and Islamic Studies, Bachelor of Languages (Hons) in Arabic Language & Literature and Bachelor of Islamic Sciences. The orientation program is collaborated under the Students Affairs Division led by Dean of Students Affairs, Dr.Shaker Bani Melhem and head by the chairman of the orientation committee; Mrs. Bibi Asma’ Sher Mohamad, Head of Student Service Department.

The orientation program begins with a welcome remarks byMr.Mohd Shahrin Ab Rahman, Head of Marketing. Followed by an opening speech by MEDIU’s Deputy CEO of Students Affairs Division;  Assoc. Prof Dr.Ismail Mat in welcoming the new students and parents as well emphasizing on the importance of seeking knowledge while having patience along the way of gaining knowledge. Dr.Shakergavea few wordsofencouragement to the new studentsto alwaysstay positive throughoput their studies in MEDIUandstate that the Student Affairs Divisionwill always assist their best to serve and meetthe needs ofthe students.The new students and parents had the opportunity to meet up with MEDIU’s Honorable CEO; Prof. Dr. Mohammad Khalifa Ali Al-Tamimi who gave a welcome speech and encouraging words to the students.

The orientation session continues for the second day with briefing session on academic, student portal and Advanced Learning & i-Management system(ALIM Starting) presented by Mr. Ammar Abdul Razak Bathich, examination and records matters by Ust. Syazwan Firdaus and a session with the MEDIU’s Librarian, Mr. Abdoulrahman Aljounaidi Mhd Ramez on the digital library. The president of student representative council; Brother Ramzy had the opportunity to have an icebreaking session with the new students. Later, a briefing session on the local financial assistance on PTPTN and MARA study loan were delivered by Mrs. Nor Suhaza Mohmad Shah.

The orientation ends on Wednesday with an academic briefing and motivational session by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usman Jakfar; Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences as well as introduction of MEDIU’s Community Service Program by Head of Public Relations; Ust. Jamaluddin Hussain and students activity by Mr. Mahmoud Radwan Hussein Al-Zgool from the Counseling and Student Activities Department. The session ends with an Entrepreneurship and Communication Workshop by an external motivational speaker; Mr Wesley Chan Wenzhen from Creative Dreams International (CDI) Sdn Bhd. The students had an amazing time with the workshop and gain useful tips on communication and personal skills.
