Al-Madinah International University Strengthens Efforts to Transform Research and Innovation into Practical Solutions

The Research Management Centre of Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) participated in a university capacity-building programme on transforming innovations into marketable products and solutions, organised by the Malaysian Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO) on Monday, 10 August 2026, at the corporation’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

The university was represented at the programme by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Popoola Kareem Hamed, Director of the Research Management Centre, accompanied by Ms. Shuhaidah Binti Ahmad Ramly and Ms. Syasya Athirah binti Ahmad Azmee.

The programme focused on intellectual property protection, patent registration, patent management, innovation assessment, and the transformation of research findings into applicable and marketable products and solutions, thereby enhancing the utilisation of research and innovation outputs within universities.

The participation forms part of Al-Madinah International University’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its research and innovation ecosystem. In this regard, the university is currently preparing two patent applications for registration with MyIPO in the near future, with the aim of strengthening the protection of its research outputs and encouraging researchers to transform their ideas and innovations into practical applications.

The university is also expanding its intellectual property protection efforts to cover its scholarly publications in seven peer-reviewed academic journals affiliated with the university’s faculties. Some of these journals were established more than ten years ago and contain hundreds of research papers and studies. The Research Management Centre is working to develop mechanisms for protecting the intellectual property rights associated with published research, journal issues, and volumes, thereby safeguarding the rights of both researchers and the university.

In support of research activities, the university approved seven research grants in 2026 for seven research projects, providing financial support for project implementation and the achievement of valuable research outcomes. The university also provides support to cover scientific publication costs for lecturers and researchers, encouraging academic publication and strengthening research productivity.

These initiatives reflect Al-Madinah International University’s commitment to building an integrated research support ecosystem that begins with research project funding and scientific publication and extends to intellectual property protection, innovation development, and the transformation of research outputs into practical solutions with scientific, societal, and economic impact.
