6th Global WAQF Conference 2018

Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) recently organized the 6th Global WAQF Conference 2018 with the theme Waqf Maqasid Syariah Transformation Agenda Toward the 4th Industrial Revolution (https://gwc2018.mediu.edu.my/) on 19-22 November 2018 in AlMeroz Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand. The conference is jointly organized by Faculty of Finance and Administrative Sciences (FFAS) of Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU),Malaysia; Chulalongkorn University, Thailand;  Islamic Foundation, Thailand; International Islamic University, Malaysia; UNIRAZAK, Malaysia and  Pekan Baru, Indonesia.

MEDIU’s Honorable CEO, Prof. Emeritus Dr. Ismawi Zen gave an opening speech in welcoming the participants of the conference which was organized by the Faculty of Finance and Administrative Sciences led by the Chairman Conference, Prof. Emer. Dr. Takiah Binti Mohd Iskandar and speech by Mr. Grisada Boonrach, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives Thailand in officiating the opening of the conference with the overall objective of developing a Global Waqf Development Gateway is to drive the transformation of the economic and social integration together with the global economy towards a new era of prosperity, happiness and governance of justice, fairness in wealth-generation- asset-management and distribution in the society.

The conference provides a platform for participants of various background and sectors from different countries to deliberate issues relating to the transformation of the entire Waqf system to emanate a strategic plan, which integrate Waqf and Maqasid Shariah for the optimal achievement in the well-being of the Muslim society leveraging on the surge of 4th Industrial Revolution. The conference attracted nearly 300 participants including government officers, head of institutions, practitioners, key officials from almost 50 countries to review the theme of the conference and to expand capacity to address the current and future development, its challenges and development strategies with ainteractive panel discussions, presentations, and briefings on topics of interest to the future of Waqf.
