2nd International Conference on Islamic Sciences (MICIS 2017)

Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU) recently organized the 2nd International Conference on Islamic Sciences (MICIS 2017) Contemporary Islamic Studies and Emerging Issues with the theme “Shariah and Society”. The conference was held on Wednesday, 1 November 2017 at Shah Alam Club, Selangor which includes a cultural trip on the second day to various prominent tourist landmarks in the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

MEDIU’s CEO Prof. Emeritus Dr.Ismawi Zen gave an opening speech in welcoming the participants of MICIS 2017 which was organized by the Faculty of Islamic Sciences and R&D Division in the presence of Dr. Waleed Fekry Faris, Director of International Institute for Muslim Unity (IIMU) of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) who gave a keynote address for the opening session of MICIS 2017.

The conference, which includes research in Arabic, English and Malay, aims to identify the Qur’anic perspective on the culture of tolerance, clarify the Islamic perspective of coexistence, and clarify the role of Shari’a in achieving social peace.

A total of 50 papers were fully presented during the conference which attracted 50 participants in the Islamic Sciences field expertise locally and internationally. The conference seeks to create an opportunity for a scholarly meeting where researchers, intellectuals and students can lead a constructive dialogue to discuss on the New developments have emerged in the Islamic reality which raised many ideological, doctrinal, and da’wa problems whereby there was necessity to make a stand to address these realistic issues through studying the contemporary ideas and ideologies in a critical and analytical way and attempting to look for solutions that emanate from the general principles of Islam and the objectives of the shariah.

Dr. Saleh Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil Al Balushi, Islamic Studies and Arabic Language Program Director of University of Jumeirah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) presented his closing speech in which he stressed that the conference contributed to the communication between researchers in the field of Islamic studies. Deputy CEO of Student Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wan Mat bin Sulaiman was pleased to distribute the certificates of appreciation to the overwhelmed participants and committee members who have participated for MICIS 2017. Assoc.Prof.Dr.Usman Jakfar, Chairman of MICIS 2017 expresses his appreciation to Honorable CEO on his patronage and guidance for the implementation of the conference and heartfelt gratitude to the researchers and participants from within and outside the region whom attended the conference.
